Natural products extraction expert
I work as a Senior Research Scientist in the Biotechnologies research group specialising in Process Engineering. My main focus is assisting New Zealand companies in developing new products and processes. It brings me satisfaction to contribute to the success of these companies and see first hand the products we have collaborated on making their way to market.
Throughout my career, I have witnessed the power of interdisciplinary collaboration and the positive impact it can have on research and development. By combining my organic chemistry knowledge with process engineering principles, I am able to develop innovative solutions and provide valuable insights to address complex challenges in the biotechnologies field.
With a strong background in organic chemistry and a PhD in the field from the University of Wollongong, I am particularly skilled in the design of natural product extraction processes, ranging from bench scale development to pilot scale trials. My experience includes aspects of process engineering, including natural product extraction and purification, process improvement, contract manufacturing for propolis under the Risk Management Programme (RMP), and the application of aqueous extraction, separation, purification, and drying technologies.
I enjoy the challenge of optimising and refining processes to maximise efficiency, quality, and sustainability. Using my expertise and collaborating closely with industry partners, I work to drive innovation and deliver tangible outcomes that benefit the companies we work with.
