I am the Team Leader and Chief Engineer in the Food Processing and Biotechnologies research group. Here my chemical engineering background gets applied to the development of extraction, separation and fractionation processes for the production of nutraceuticals, functional foods, dietary supplements and cosmeceuticals.

I am a Senior Principal Engineer in the Biotechnologies department. My expertise is in the extraction, separation and purification of Natural Products, where I specialise in green and traditional solvent extraction methods, downstream separations, fractionation, purification and process scale-up.

I’m a Team Leader Bioprocessing & Fermentation working in the Fermentation and Microbiology group. My background is in Biochemistry and I’m skilled in a variety of molecular biology and microbiology techniques, as well as small scale fermentation.

I help to develop scalable and efficient processes for converting raw materials into high-value ingredients and products.

My advanced analytical skills support and develop industrial products being commercialised from original research. I am a Principal Research Scientist in the Biotechnologies group where I manage the commercial analytical activities for the Lipids team. During my time at Callaghan Innovation I have established phosphorous-31 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy analysis of phospholipids.

I graduated from the chemical department of the Far-Eastern State University (Russia), before joining the top Russian lipid research laboratory at the Institute of Marine Biology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vladivostok.

I am Shuguang Zhang, a Principal Research Scientist specialising in Bioprocessing and Fermentation in the field of Biotechnologies. My training is in microbiology and I work manipulating microorganisms, including bacteria, filamentous fungi, and yeasts, at both molecular and flask/agar plate scales.
