Protein Purification and Characterisation

I am a Research Technician in the Biotechnologies team, specialising in Biochemistry. My passion for Biochemistry began during my undergraduate degree at the University of Otago, leading me into a Master’s degree with a focus on post-translational modification, specifically ubiquitylation. This has provided me with experience in the areas of protein purification, characterisation and quantification.

My prior research involved the identification and characterisation of a novel mechanism involving the post-translational modification of ubiquitin chains, which can switch signalling pathways in human cells into a "protein destruction mode". This mechanism has implications in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's.

I am inspired by the significant impact our hard work has on the success of New Zealand companies outside the lab. Callaghan Innovation has also given me many unique opportunities and talented people that I get to work alongside every day.
