Navigating a period of change with purpose and steadiness
I stepped into the role of Interim Chief Executive in January 2026, at a time when Callaghan Innovation is navigating a period of significant change. It’s a privilege to help guide the organisation through this phase – maintaining stability, supporting our people, and keeping innovators and customers firmly at the centre of our mahi as responsibilities transition across the system.
Before taking on the interim role, I led our Innovation Expertise portfolio, with a focus on bringing together Callaghan Innovation’s scientific and technical expertise to support businesses effectively and consistently. One of the highlights of my time here has been working closely with the Measurement Standards Laboratory of New Zealand as purpose-built facilities were designed and constructed to house Aotearoa’s time, electrical, temperature, and humidity standards – a once-in-a-generation investment in national capability.
My career has spanned a range of sectors, each reinforcing a strong commitment to public good and meaningful impact. An early chapter in policing shaped a deep respect for those working in service of their communities and continues to influence my leadership approach today. I’ve always been drawn to organisations with a clear sense of purpose, and Callaghan Innovation has long played an important role in supporting deep tech innovation across Aotearoa.
What continues to stand out is the calibre and commitment of our people, and the innovators we work alongside. Even in a time of change, the expertise, care, and integrity that underpins our mahi remains constant. My focus is on ensuring this work is carried forward thoughtfully and responsibly as we move through the next stage.
