Callaghan Innovation and the Poutama Trust congratulate the finalists of the 2023 New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards.

The Hi-Tech Awards, now in their 28th year, celebrate the success of Aotearoa’s producers of goods and services from the software, electronics, telecommunications, mobile, agritech, creative and other industries.

This year Callaghan Innovation, celebrating its 10th anniversary, has partnered with the Poutama Trust to sponsor the Hi-Tech Kamupene Māori o te Tau – Māori Company of the Year Award.

The finalists in this section are:

Henare Johnson, Callaghan Innovation’s Chief Maori and Government Engagement officer, says the finalists once again demonstrate the extraordinary range of technical innovation across a range of industries and sectors in the Māori economy.

“It is very rewarding to see so many incredible Māori innovators developing solutions that can benefit such a wide range of people across several sectors.

“This year’s finalists are using technology in the service industries, to design wireless headphones for sport, to monitor the environment and to design culturally inspired items for children. It is incredibly exciting to see the imagination, creativity and technological skills that have gone into the design of these products.”

Poutama Kaiwhakahaere Koroninia Dickinson says he is heartened to see some of the best Māori owned and operated businesses across Aotearoa recognised by the Hi-Tech Awards.

Poutama Trust provides business development services to Māori businesses (Pakihi) across Aotearoa, our team has a 34-year track record of working successfully with Pakihi to help them grow and we are delighted to be part of recognising their mahi, innovation and entrepreneurship.”

A record number of companies have entered this year’s Hi-Tech Awards and the winners will be announced at a gala dinner in Christchurch on June 23.
