AbstractThe thermal and the optical properties of the emerging copolymers of methyl methacrylate with 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate [P(HEMA:MMA)] laser hosts have been measured and compared with measurements of the more established polymethyl methacrylates (PMMA) and modified PMMA (MPMMA) host polymers. The range of PMMA, MPMMA, and P(HEMA:MMA) polymers allows the selection of the best molecular environment for efficient laser action in specific dyes. The particular of these new P(HEMA:MMA) copolymer hosts are their compatibility with polar dyes and their high laser damage thresholds.
