New Grants 2022

The Government is launching two new grants aimed at strengthening support for businesses doing research, development and innovation.

Ārohia Innovation Trailblazer Grant

The Ārohia Innovation Trailblazer Grant will be a contestable grant which will support non-R&D innovation activities not covered by the Research & Development Tax Incentive (RDTI). It is designed to help businesses whose innovation activity is likely to build capabilities or create opportunities with wider benefits across the New Zealand innovation system. It will be targeted at businesses doing pioneering innovation or building platforms that will help other innovators.

New to R&D Grant

The New to R&D Grant is a two-year co-funded grant designed to help Kiwi businesses overcome the hurdles to getting started in R&D and developing a sustainable R&D programme for the future. This exciting new grant not only helps businesses with the steep learning curve and ongoing costs of doing R&D, it will also ease the transition to the Research & Development Tax Incentive (RDTI) for ongoing R&D support after the grant period ends.

When will these grants be available?

Both grants are expected to be available to customers in the fourth quarter of 2022 with the New to R&D Grant opening first, followed by the Ārohia Innovation Trailblazer Grant towards the end of the year.
