AbstractTemperature dependent photoluminescence (PL) measurements have been done on LaF3:Eu3+ nanoparticles capped with sensitizing or nonsensitizing ligands. The LaF3:Eu3+ nanoparticles containing a sensitizing ligand display a large enhancement of the PL intensity as well as an additional PL decay mechanism that is not seen in the LaF3:Eu3+ nanoparticles capped with nonsensitizing ligands. We also demonstrate that it is possible to obtain transparent discs, which is advantageous for device applications. The image in the abstract shows cuvettes containing solutions of LaF3:Eu3+ capped with OA (left) and LaF3:Eu3+ capped with TTA/OA (right) in CHCl3 and excited at 365nm.
