Trial a collaborative robot in your workplace to validate digital manufacturing as an R&D tool for your business
We’re committed to helping manufacturers embrace the digital revolution that is changing the face of manufacturing and industry (often referred to as ‘Industry 4.0’ or the 'Industrial Internet of Things'). Collaborative robots – robots work alongside humans in a shared workspace – are an important part of this revolution and are poised to disrupt all types and scales of manufacturing.
See for yourself how collaborative robots can help your business by trialling our UR5 robot.

How can robots help your business?
Robotic technology can have a positive impact on productivity, safety and employee satisfaction by assisting with monotonous tasks and freeing up your skilled people so you can be more competitive.
In 2016 New Zealand company Assa Abloy, a global leader in door and window opening solutions, was seeking more effective, work-place safe methods for manufacturing. Connecting with Callaghan Innovation, the two organisations collaborated on a robot trial comparing both the Callaghan operated ‘Baxter’ robot and Universal Robots’ UR5 model. The UR5 was ultimately identified as the most fit for purpose. Universal Robots shared a case study on their website highlighting the significant impact that robot ‘Victoria’ has had on the Assa Abloy business, along with plans for further collaborative robotics.
Free one month trials
Free one month trials of our Universal UR5 robot are available for eligible businesses.
The trials provide a great opportunity to test a smart, collaborative robot in your workplace. They would be of most benefit to businesses that are new to robotics and have manufacturing or production tasks that can be performed by a collaborative robot.
We suggest combining use of robots with our Better by Lean training.
About the UR5
The UR5 is an industrial robot arm that is lightweight, doesn’t require a safety cage, and is easy to set up and use.
Easy to programme
The UR5 can be easily programmed by manually moving the robot by hand or using the simple controls on a touchscreen tablet. The patented technology can help you reduce programming time by up to 90%.
Safe to use
UR5 robots can help you produce a safer workplace. They have been designed to work alongside your employees with no safety guarding. They can also reduce repetitive strain and accidental injuries by automating dirty, dull and dangerous tasks.
Quick return on investment
Can earn a fast payback – potentially less than 1 year, dependent on application.
- Automate tasks up to 5 kgs
- Reach radius of up to 850 mm
- Can work in close proximity to humans
- Flexible and retrainable
- Fast setup
