2021 has been a defining year for New Zealand’s SaaS sector (despite its many challenges) - and SaaS growth in 2022 looks set to rival a number of our traditional export industries. Join other SaaS founders, directors, leaders and their teams to hear how COVID has helped shape SaaS into a truly ‘borderless’ digital industry, and how kiwi companies can capitalise on the opportunities that this global environment presents.
Alex Burke will talk about Education Perfect’s recent acquisition and how to build a brand and culture from a New Zealand base that will attract offshore investor interest. Mark Clare (Clare Capital) breaks down the stats on the SaaS boom, and shares his predictions for what’s to come.
Our SaaS panel of Serge van Dam (SaaS Investor-Director), Donnamaree Ryder (Tania.ai), Nick Whitehead (Serko) and Amelia Gain (Preno) will discuss “Why NZ needs a SaaS Community.” They’ll identify the key industry challenges and opportunities that lie before us, and ways our SaaS companies can work together to collectively scale and grow.

About the presenters and panelists
Alex Burke, Education Perfect
Alex Burke has 20+ years experience in driving technical excellence and team-building. Alex is currently CEO of New Zealand based EdTech Education Perfect (EP). A leader in the ANZ market, EP is starting to accelerate globally, with customers now in 60+ countries. Prior to joining EP, Alex built and sold Tigerspike, a business that Alex helped build with a team of 500, located across 12 offices around the world.
Mark Clare, Clare Capital
Mark Clare is the founder of Clare Capital and has over 20 years of commercial and corporate finance experience, with a background in investment banking, strategy and technology. Mark has completed a multitude of mergers and acquisitions transactions for large entities and private companies as well as valuations, strategic options and corporate finance analysis. He is also the founder of Valuecruncher, a web-based software application that provided interactive valuation tools for publicly traded companies. Clare Capital is a transaction-focused corporate finance advisory firm providing creative solutions for both mergers and acquisitions and capital raising mandates.
Serge van Dam, Investor Director
Serge van Dam is an active Investor Director in globally-minded Kiwi software companies including Montoux, Re-Leased, Wipster, Raygun and CoGo.
Originally an Organisational Psychologist, Serge is passionate about growth in all of its manifestations, and has a deep interest in software-driven disruption. He spent a decade as an acknowledged thought leader in fintech / digital banking, having been Chief Marketing Officer for M-Com - the world's leading mobile banking platform - which was acquired by NASDAQ-listed Fiserv in 2011.
Nick Whitehead, Serko
Nick Whitehead is a technology marketing leader who is passionate about the role of communities to build engagement and enhance customer experience. As CMO of Serko, Nick leads the global marketing and communications functions and is challenged with building a Billion Dollar Brand, commercialising innovation through the development of effective go-to-market strategies.
Donnamaree Ryder, Tania.ai
Donnamaree is an experienced AI and Robotics Process Automation thought leader and practitioner. She has developed a global AI Assistant and established two Enterprise-wide RPA Centres of Excellence in both New Zealand and Australia. With extensive experience as an executive and consultant, her competencies include accounting, internal audit, investments, process excellence, project planning, project execution and governance.
