AbstractThis work considers the use of nano-porous materials as a means of providing impedance matching. A comparison is made to conventional loaded epoxy. We find that by varying the porosity an impedance range of 2 to 10 MRayl seems possible, a range where there are no common solids. The nano-porous structure acts as a waveguide with low losses. By comparison loaded epoxies have high absorption due to the wave scattering associated with the loading particles. ©2009 IEEE.
