AbstractAn improved mechanism for spinning the floating element of a pressure balance up to its operating rotational frequency is described. It utilises a continuous rubber belt to impact a torque to the floating element. This drive can be used to spin the floating element in either direction at any rotational frequency up to 16 MHz and acts as an effective brake when applied to the floating element with the motor power off.
