Abstract | We study the dissipation in the time-of-swing method of measuring the gravitational constant. Modelling the environment as a bath of non-interacting modes we derive the equation of motion of the pendulum in terms of the experimentally obtainable spectral function. © 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
