Abstract | A model is described which simulates the filament winding process of cylinders. It is discussed how the model relates the processing variables (winding speed, fiber tension, temperature) to the parameters characterizing the composite and the mandrel, including the temperature, resin degree of cure, resin viscosity, fiber tension, stresses and strains, and the void content. A sample problem is presented which shows the type of information provided by the model. The use of the model in the selection of the appropriate process variables is discussed. |
