AbstractMeasurements are made of tube-skin temperatures in a reformer furnace with a calibrated CCD camera operating over a narrow spectral bandwidth near 885 nm. These measurements are compared with readings taken with a conventional single-detector radiation thermometer, and a simple model is applied to correct the readings for reflected radiation. The uncertainties for the two instruments are similar, but the CCD camera is shown to have several advantages over the conventional radiometer, including insensitivity to atmospheric effects and high spatial resolution, allowing accurate measurements over long distances.
