AbstractA method of encapsulating and propagating measurement uncertainty information in modular instrumentation systems is described. The technique is simple to implement and fully compliant with international best practice. Measurement uncertainty is a fundamental aspect of any measurement system and is currently difficult to manage when systems are subjected to configuration changes. The technique could provide a significant step forward in maintaining the integrity of complex systems.
